Arab Traffic Week

Promoting Traffic Safety Culture

As part of the activities of Arab Traffic Week, and in affirmation of its partnership with civil society institutions, the International University organized a youth debate to reinforce awareness and education efforts. This event also came as a continuation of the university’s commemoration of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims held last November.

On the evening of Monday, April 4, 2026, the Ali Khalifa Al-Zaidi Hall at the university hosted a remarkable youth debate aimed at spreading the culture of road safety, encouraging dialogue, and fostering acceptance of diverse opinions among young people.

The debate centered on a thought-provoking issue: “The absence of community awareness is more dangerous than weak infrastructure in causing accidents.”

Participants presented their perspectives on the causes of traffic accidents and methods of prevention, highlighting the pivotal role of human behavior compared to material factors.

The debate was distinguished by the active participation of youth from the Scout Movement, who demonstrated strong skills in argumentation and reasoning. Their involvement was supervised by Leader Fatima Al-Majbari, who guided and prepared them for this awareness-raising forum.

Dr. Ghada Al-Kadiki, a certified adjudicator from the Libyan Debate Club, undertook the role of judge and commentator. She provided essential feedback on the performance of the young participants, praised their contributions, and offered technical advice on presentation skills, delivery, and analytical approaches to addressing the issue with depth and objectivity.

The event was also attended by Ms. Waheba Al-Hassi, Director of the Department of Community Responsibility and Sustainability, and Prof. Dr. Nora Naseeb, Director of the Department of Environment and Sustainability at the International University, reflecting the commitment of academic institutions to initiatives that serve the public good.

This debate was the fruit of joint collaboration among several active entities:

  • The Libyan International University
  • The Benghazi Scouts and Guides Commission
  • The Youth Voluntary Work Organization
  • The Hope Makers Foundation

At its core, this initiative seeks to raise youth awareness of road risks and to transform traffic safety into a shared social responsibility, carried collectively to reduce the tragic toll of road accidents.
