International University – A University of Sustainability

Ministry of Environment Commends the Positive Impact of International University Initiatives on Environment and Climate

On Wednesday morning, May 20, 2026, the Ministry of Environment of the Libyan Government held an extensive meeting in the Academic Hall with several organizational components of the Libyan International University. These included: the Community Responsibility and Sustainability Coordination Office at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, the Department of Environment and Sustainability, the Department of Community Responsibility, the Department of Occupational Health and Safety, and the Department of Risk and Opportunities. The meeting was convened as part of a distinguished initiative to coordinate preparations for the celebration of World Environment Day.

Representatives from the Ministry of Environment praised the University’s role on both scientific and practical fronts. They highlighted the tangible impact of the University’s initiatives and projects on the environment and climate in Benghazi in particular, as well as its support for environmental initiatives across the nation. They also noted the significant contributions of student activities, driven by a sense of social responsibility toward the surrounding environment in all its dimensions. Furthermore, they commended the University’s outstanding educational and academic standards, embedded within its curricula and reinforced through its research centers, awareness programs, and community outreach efforts.

The participants agreed to develop a detailed program for World Environment Day, structured into two main sections:

  1. Air Quality – addressing issues and solutions related to clean air.
  2. Climate Impact on Health and Economy – exploring the broader consequences of climate change.

The program will feature a series of keynote speeches, presentations, and interactive discussions. The celebration will be hosted by the Libyan International University on June 6, 2026.
