The International University Celebrates World Environment Day

Departing from the traditional celebratory framework, the Ministry of Environment, in cooperation with the Libyan International University, commemorated World Environment Day 2026 at the Promising Libya Hall.

The event was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hafiz; Member of the Libyan Parliament, Mr. Ibrahim Al-Zughaid; President of the Libyan International University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad Embark; along with several university leaders, activists, academics, and representatives of associations and institutions concerned with environment, climate, and sustainability issues. The Ministry of Interior was notably represented through the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, and a distinguished delegation from the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy also participated.

The opening session featured keynote addresses by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad Embark, President of the University; Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hafiz, Minister of Environment; and Member of Parliament Mr. Ibrahim Al-Zughaid. (Full texts of these speeches were published in earlier releases.)

The event included a scientific and awareness program under the slogan “Climate Action”, consisting of two academic sessions that addressed critical topics such as air quality, climate change in Libya, and climate action strategies.

The program also featured panel discussions on air quality and the impacts of climate change on health and the economy, with contributions from a distinguished group of academics, experts, and specialists representing government bodies, national institutions, and international organizations.

This initiative reaffirms the University’s commitment to promoting environmental awareness, strengthening partnerships with relevant institutions, and contributing to sustainable solutions for environmental challenges—serving society and safeguarding the environment for future generations.

The event was marked by serious and constructive discussions that enriched the scientific research themes presented.
