Affirming Its Social Responsibility: The International University Celebrates Its Pink Day


In a demonstration of its commitment to social responsibility, the International University celebrated its annual Pink Day on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The event was organized by the Office of Communication and the Women’s Empowerment Office, and welcomed a wide range of organizations and institutions united in their efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote prevention strategies.

Held in the Scout Leader Ali Khalifa Al-Zaidi Hall, the event drew a large and engaged audience, contributing significantly to its success. The gathering fostered collaboration and synergy among participants, paving the way for a national initiative to support women’s health in Libya—grounded in scientific, social, cultural, and legal principles.

The session opened with a welcoming address by Ms. Najiba Astaita, Director of the Women’s Empowerment Office and the Office of Communication at the International University. She expressed her appreciation for the attendees and emphasized that this important event reflects the university’s dedication to fulfilling its social responsibility and building partnerships with all community-focused organizations—especially in the areas of health awareness and education. She highlighted the university’s ongoing support for breast cancer prevention campaigns and the critical importance of early detection.

Following her remarks, the President of the University, Professor Dr. Mohamed Saad Mubarak, delivered an opening speech in which he welcomed the audience and praised the initiative as a scientific and social endeavor that strengthens the university’s ties with its community. He affirmed the university’s ethical and academic responsibility to serve as a center of expertise, offering its full capabilities and resources to promote health awareness around one of the most pressing health challenges facing society—breast cancer. He also commended the participating researchers for their voluntary contributions to this vital educational effort, and offered prayers for healing and wellness for all.

The awareness session was enriched by a series of diverse and impactful presentations:

    Presented by Prof. Dr. Amina Al-Sayed, Consultant in Family and Community Medicine.
  • Lecture 2: Nutrition and Breast Cancer: A Journey from Prevention to Treatment
    Presented by Dr. Faiza Al-Fakhri.
  • Lecture 3: Psychological Support in the Journey of Recovery from Breast Cancer
    Presented by Dr. Fatima Al-Fallah.
  • Lecture 4: The Law Protects the Right to Life and Health
    Presented by Dr. Habiba Al-Sheikhi.
  • Lecture 5: Family and Social Support for Women with Breast Cancer: Its Positive Role
    Presented by Dr. Haniya Al-Qamati.
  • Lecture 6: Media and Its Impact on Women’s Awareness
    Presented by Ms. Somaya Al-Bouaishi.

The event reached a deeply emotional peak as breast cancer survivors shared their stories of resilience, courage, and determination—touching hearts and inspiring all in attendance.

The Pink Day activities also featured rich discussions and thoughtful interventions that deepened the event’s vision and message. Numerous valuable proposals and recommendations were put forward.

It is worth noting and commending the outstanding participation of students from the International University throughout all stages of the event.
