Working Toward a Model Campus in Resource Management and Sustainability

In pursuit of making the International University campus a role model in efficient and effective resource management, and reaffirming the principles of sustainability and social responsibility, the Agency for Social Responsibility and Sustainability held its second meeting today, Wednesday, in the hall of Mujahid Ahmed Al-Sharif Al-Senussi, attended by the University President, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad Mbarak.

The meeting was opened by Prof. Dr. Ali Saeed, Vice President for Social Responsibility and Sustainability, who welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of joint efforts among the university’s administrations and faculties to achieve sustainability goals and to embed social responsibility values within the university environment and the wider community.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Waheba Al-Hassi, Director of the Social Responsibility Department; Prof. Dr. Nour Naseeb, Director of the Environment and Sustainability Department; and Ms. Marwa Idris, Head of the Coordinators Section. Also present were the social responsibility coordinators from the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology—reflecting the university’s commitment to collaborative institutional work.

A key agenda item was the presentation of the new annual plan by the Director of Environment and Sustainability, which includes innovative initiatives in environmental awareness, rationalizing consumption, and supporting green sustainability projects. Attendees also listened to presentations from faculty coordinators, who outlined their proposals and scheduled programs for the current semester, with a focus on integrating sustainability concepts into student and academic activities.

The participants discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between departments and faculties, unify implementation mechanisms to ensure the success of joint initiatives, and establish measurable performance indicators to evaluate the impact of implemented programs.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the University President praised the efforts made, stressing the importance of following up on the implementation of approved plans and preparing periodic reports on achievements. He reaffirmed the senior administration’s support for all initiatives that enhance the university’s standing as a leading institution in social responsibility and sustainable development.
